About
Emu Plains

Our centre was formed on the 18th June 1979. It is our objective as a club to provide an opportunity for children in our local community to participate in Athletics in order to enjoy regular exercise, improve fitness, develop skills and techniques, make friends, gain leadership skills and to experience competition in a family friendly way. We cater for both Boys and Girls from 3 to under 20. We also actively cater for children with disabilities. As a large sporting group we have a very active committee who are dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all our families and for athletes of all abilities.

Our
History

In 1964, in the Victorian town of Geelong, the first club for children’s athletics was formed. From its simple beginnings, athletics for boys and girls evolved at a phenomenal rate. Little Athletics quickly spread to other parts of Australia. In Sydney’s outer west, a group of local residents were also keen to promote the sport of track and field athletics for children. Their foresight and efforts were rewarded when the centre was formed on the 18th June 1979 at a meeting held at Emu Plains Public School. The Emu Plains Little Athletics Centre, officially held its first competition at Hunter Fields in Emu Plains. The Club gained affiliation with Little Athletics NSW in the 1979/1980 year. Emu Plains Little Athletics relocated to Leonay Oval in 1987. Saturday morning competition was later abandoned for a Friday night, which suited its members. Emu Plains Little Athletics membership averages 450 athletes annually. Record membership numbers of over 700 athletes were registered in the year of the 2000 Olympic Games. An amazing achievement for the sport. Celebrating our 45th year of operation, we are very proud of how the Club has revolved and the athletes the Club has produced. We regularly have multiple athletes competing at a National level and many more at State, Region and Zone competitions. Regardless of ability, Emu Plains Little Athletics encourages all athletes to do their best, have fun, get fit and as our motto says - To Strive With Honour
